Denise E. McClain
Denise is a director in the Scottsdale office. At Abbot Downing, Denise draws on her past experiences to help clients develop and implement their wealth transfer plans and makes recommendations about wealth transfer and income tax saving strategies.
Before joining Abbot Downing, Denise was a financial principal with Lowry Hill. Prior to joining Lowry Hill in 2007, Denise was an attorney at Quarles & Brady, LLP and Stinson Morrison Hecker, LLP where she focused on wealth transfer planning, trust administration, federal and state tax planning and litigation, business succession planning, and corporate transactions and maintenance.
Denise obtained a juris doctorate degree from the Arizona State University College of Law and graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in accountancy from Arizona State University. She also obtained her Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation (not currently practicing) and is a member of the Arizona Society of Certified Public Accountants. Denise is a SAFE-registered mortgage loan originator (NMLSR ID 871730).
Denise is a member of Valley Estate Planners (currently serving as President of the group), the American Association of Attorney-CPAs, Scottsdale Estate Planners, Arizona State Bar (Probate and Trust Law Section) (not currently practicing), and American Bar Association (Real Property, Probate and Trust Law Section) (not currently practicing). Denise currently serves as Chairwoman of the HonorHealth Foundation Financial Health Advisory Council. She is a member of the Arizona Community Foundation Professional Advisory Board (where she was Chairwoman for two years from 2017-2019), and participates on the Tax & Legal Seminar Planning Committee (of which she served as Chairwoman in both 2012 and 2013). She served on the board of directors of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Phoenix Affiliate (including as President from 2007-2009) and has been involved with National Charity League, the Phoenix Zoo Planned Giving Advisory Council, Wills for Heroes, and Tempe Community Action Agency, among multiple other charitable organizations. In 2009, she received a “Forty-Under-40” award from the Phoenix Business Journal.
Denise and her husband, Tom, live in Tempe, Arizona, with their three daughters.
